Umm Kulthum was the most renowned and prolific singers in the Arab world and a national icon of Egypt. From a humble background, Umm Kulthum had a remarkable voice with an extraordinadr vocal ability and style, which propelled her to unparalleled fame, She was given the title Kawakab El Sharq which means Planet of the Middle East or East Star,Beginning in 1934 and for almost forty years ,Umm Kalthum performed monthly concerts in Cairo that lasted for hours and were broadcast over the radio to the world. Her music was accessible to all, transforming the musical sphere from being strictly elite to something appreciated and enjoyed by all;
Original music scores, national medals and personal items are exhibited in the museum, Lavish gowns and jewellery worn during her performances are also shown, including the famous crescent diamond brooch that she often wore. Visitors can experience Umm Kulthum's performances through audio and visual display.
