The Sultan Hassan Mosque and Madrasa is a historic Islamic complex located in Cairo, Egypt. It was built during the Mamluk era in the 14th century, specifically between 1356 and 1363, during the reign of Sultan Hassan bin Muhammad bin Qalawun. The complex was designed to serve as both a mosque and a religious school (madrasa).

The mosque and madrasa are considered a masterpiece of Mamluk architecture, known for its grandeur and intricate details. The complex was constructed using limestone and features a blend of architectural styles, including Islamic, Coptic, and even European influences.

The mosque is known for its massive size and impressive proportions. It has a rectangular courtyard surrounded by four iwans (vaulted halls) on each side. The main prayer hall is located in the western iwan and is notable for its soaring ceilings and beautifully carved mihrab (prayer niche).

The madrasa, located on the eastern side of the complex, consisted of a central courtyard surrounded by student cells and lecture halls. It was designed to accommodate hundreds of students who would study Islamic theology, law, and other subjects.

Over the centuries, the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Madrasa suffered from neglect and natural disasters, which resulted in damage to its structure. However, significant restoration efforts have been undertaken to preserve and revive the complex's architectural and historical significance.

Today, the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Madrasa remains an important cultural and architectural landmark in Cairo. It attracts visitors from around the world who come to admire its stunning architectural features and learn about Egypt's rich history and Islamic heritage
